The Frog, The Mushroom, and the Poem.

Joyful tidings to you, folks. A new poem is up. Here is a picture I snapped last night of a keen-eyed Croakette.

When we rescued Croakette, I quickly identified her as a Squirrel Tree Frog. Some sources say that’s wrong– that she is a Spring Peeper. These individuals and identifiers are objectively, even mortifyingly wrong. I have never seen a true green Spring Peeper, neither in the corporeal world or the digital, and yet, if you peruse my site you will see that Croakette was once a vibrant green before she adjusted to her habitat’s colors. I say all of this as a shield, because, nevertheless, by some odd erring of nature I may have the most talented and beautiful Spring Peeper. Until I am fully disproved, I am content to say I have a very fine female Squirrel Tree Frog.

The frequent rains and early summer warmth has made the local smooth chanterelle yield explode. Just outside of my house, dotting the woods, a veritable gold mine of dozens of chanterelles glisten a dewy dandelion amongst the detritus. Of course, I had to pick some. I sauteed several last night and tonight using shallot, thyme, butter, a pinch of minced garlic and of course salt and pepper. The uses for them are endless, and the supply seems nearly endless too, as they crop up like weeds after these heavy rains.

Lastly, besides the poems, I have a new writing project I am working on. If everything bodes well this next few weeks, it will hopefully be out by late June/early July. Look forward to a delightful (and possibly thrilling?) surprise.

In these encroaching summer months, despite recent illness and stress, I endeavor to commit as much time as I can to bettering and filling up this website. Here in the Florida Parishes, under the swamp oaks and pines you can practically hear the earth begging to be written about. I desire nothing more than to do so.
