A Weekend in the Crescent City

Here is an older pic of good ‘ol croakey. The missus and I are out of town for the week, so she is being tended to by the kindly COOLFROGS cousins.

The Lady surveys her domain.

It has been an excellent birthday week. We’ve dined with friends and mentors, read more of The Moviegoer (I am a slow and contemplative reader, or perhaps just a bit of a procrastinator) and enjoyed many a cigar and pipe around New Orleans.

One of our favorite spots to stay at in the Crescent City is the Hotel Peter and Paul. It is a warm beacon in the Marigny, a boutique hotel residing on the grounds of the old church and convent. I always find establishments that work in tandem with existing structures to be truly beautiful. We have stayed there several times now, and with every stay we find another thing to fall in love with. Many a night have I spent on the front steps of the church or the rectory, imbibing in fine drinks and stoking a pipe.

Earlier today we enjoyed our second Jazz Brunch at Commander’s Palace. I like this place for several reasons: they of course, play live jazz at your table during the brunch, they have delectable food, delicious cocktails and they are a healthy dose of New Orleans in a single building. A fifth, more silly little thing, is that they are also in Red Dead Redemption 2 (I may have visited several location throughout the south that have influenced or are straight up inside of that game. I have the odd quirk of certification Walker Percy speaks upon).

Several poems will be posted tonight, and a few more will be drip fed throughout the coming week. I would like to end today’s post with the cigar I have enjoyed twice now: Ashton’s Sorcerer. A fine, long cigar perfect for writing up posts in this cozy little cigar lounge in the heart of the Garden District. Ignore the spit.

May you all have a blessed week,

COOLFROGS.
